Toshihiko discovered about his power around the age of nine. He babbled about it to his brother and his parents, and promptly got dismissed as overactive imagination. Since then he mostly kept his secret to himself, not wanting to be branded freak or any other weird names. The fact that he had his power didn't turn him to an introvert or anything, though. He rather thought it was pretty cool. But. He was also smart enough to refrain from abusing his power—except if he wanted to bully some bully that bullied him. In his British-based private school, he was one of those people who sat comfortably between the popular and the outcasts. He had his own group of friends, experienced not-so-meaningful friendship, puppy love, recognitions from his teachers/classmates, etc. He was this one cool, bit-of-a-loner kid who could be found reading or playing game on his laptop in his seat near the window. He was the "okay" kid... as he was at home. He was raised in an educated, moderately happy family, with a mother that constantly wondered if he were gay because he didn't have a girlfriend, and a father who simply laughed it off. His childhood was filled with equally good and bad memories, but nothing constituted as extremely traumatizing, no. Toshi is eighteen and a half now, comfortably living in a middle-high class prefecture in Tokyo. His older brother, Kazuhiko, recently got married and his mom, naturally, turned her attention to him—in other words, pestered him to get a girlfriend and marry well ("When are you going to give us grandchildren? Are you gay?") After a lot of haggling and assurances that Toshi was, indeed, not gay, just "blossomed late" (he preferred 'less sexual'), Toshi decided to get the hell out of the city. Why, he even went as far as going out of the country. So he opened the atlas. And got St. Petersburg at the second try (he got Bosnia Herzegovina the first try). So off he went to St. Petersburg State U, with a little skill in Russian language and a lot of determination to escape the clutches of matrimony. |
Toshi could usually be found reading, cooking, or tapping on his laptop. He wasn't a computer genius, no, he just loved the various things he could find in the internet. Another of his passion is basketball and cooking (his mom loved him... and afraid that he might be gay, yes). He was a natural in combining flavors and he loved experimenting. There was no Culinary Arts major in SPbSU, though, so he went with management—safest, most common, and usable in many fields. Having been raised in a moderately-liberal home, Toshi didn't have problem with most things in life. Abortion? When necessary. Women's right? It has its good points. Homosexuality? As soon as they don't crush on him—yeah sure. He was an obedient kid in nature; not that his parents demanded crazy things from him and his brother. He kept his grades good enough, kept his parents happy enough, and... kept to himself. When faced with strangers, be they her parents' friends or a bunch of drunks in the street, he was polite and kept his opinions to himself with a smile. He had a tendency to be childish sometimes, but only when he didn't know how to deal with his emotions. When this happened, he would climb up to his roof and cool his head off... and not talk about it. This might prove to be a problem in St. Petersburg, especially in the winter. Toshi preferred the company of people in the form of text and/or voice instead of solid flesh and blood, yes, but he was not a total loner; he was just content with a few friends. He believed in loyalty, and even though it might be hard for him to give it, when he did, he committed to it. Whether the loyalty was placed in the right person or not was another matter. He didn't know what he wanted or where he was going in life at the moment, so probably this whole End of The World fiasco would give him something to think about in his life. |
Toshi had a clean-cut, average, middle-high-class good-boy look: no pierced body parts, no colored hair, no tattoos, no color contacts—he preferred his wire-framed glasses anyway. He usually dressed impeccably, and while not over the top, he did tend to look a bit too neat to some people. He didn't like standing out in a crowd but he had a standard of classiness in dressing—this meant nothing that was potentially laughable. Mostly shirts with collars, nothing with outrageous colors or prints. Occasionally jeans, rarely T-Shirts. At first glance, people usually perceive him as a tad unapproachable. Not that he worked really hard to rebuke that accusation. Unless they were persistent, he usually kept the conversation polite, light, and usually more about them than him. |
